CHICAGO — Three teens are in custody after allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint and crashing their getaway car on the city’s South Side on Sunday evening.
According to Chicago police, officers responded to a report of a robbery that occurred in the 100 block of East 74th Street in Grand Crossing at around 8 p.m.
Officers say the victim, a 50-year-old man, told police that he had been held up at gunpoint and robbed by three people who then fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV.
Police say shortly after the robbery, officers were called to the scene of a crash in the 6300 block of South State Street that involved a vehicle that matched the description of the one used in the armed robbery.
Police say the dark-colored SUV struck a center median in the area, leaving the three occupants, two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy injured.
Police say all three teens were taken into custody and a gun was allegedly recovered.
All three boys were taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
According to police, investigations into the robbery and crash are underway.
