HEINZ has launched a new flavour of baked beans using one of Brits’ favourite combos – but it’s sure to divide opinion.
The tin can connoisseurs have teamed up with cheese maker Cathedral City to launch ‘Cheesy Beanz’.
The odd new tins include cheese already mixed into the bean sauce, and they’ll be available in stores from February 21.
For bean lovers keen to get their hands on the cans early, a limited edition run of 500 will be available on Heinz’ website on Valentine’s Day from midday.
Alessandra de Dreuille, Director of Meals and Insights from Heinz, said: “We know Brits absolutely love pairing beanz with cheese and so we’re thrilled to finally announce our partnership with Cathedral City – bringing beanz lovers up and down the country the ultimate perfect match.
“And what better time to launch this cheesy duo than in the run up to Valentine’s Day! Whether you’re celebrating with your friends, partner, family or even your pets, you can be sure to find love with Heinz Cheesy Beanz”.
Neil Stewart, Head of Cheese Marketing at Cathedral City commented: “We’re so excited to be teaming up with Heinz to bring this truly unique and delicious flavour to the UK.
“With 64% of brits agreeing that cheese makes beans even tastier, it feels like a no brainer.
“We’re really looking forward to partnering with another family favourite to provide the nation with the everyday high quality and deliciously tasty meals they know and love.”
New research released by Heinz said Brits eat baked beans more than once a week, with a quarter of Brits eating them more than that.
Two-thirds of baked bean fans like to put cheese on top.
Another two-thirds best enjoy their beans on a jacket potato, while 58 per cent like them on toast.
A whopping 37 per cent like their beans on chips, with 28 per cent liking them in a toastie.
Only 15 per cent of Brits like their beans in a pasty.
Vindaloo, Tikka and Jalfrezi flavoured Beanz were launched last year as limited editions to mark October’s National Curry Week.
Heinz also sells Beanz Filled Hash Browns and Heinz Beanz Pizza.
Heinz has previously created a step-by-step guide to making beans on toast — because one in five people has no idea how.
In 2022, one grandad opened a tin of beans — to find just sauce inside.
In 2019 Steve Smith of Bristol found just one in his Heinz can.
He said: “I had scrambled eggs instead.”
