CHICAGO — Six people, including 5 Chicago firefighters, were taken to the hospital on Saturday afternoon after a crash involving a firetruck on the city’s South Side.
Chicago police say the crash happened just after 4:15 p.m. in the 4700 block of South State Street, in Grand Boulevard.
Officers say the firetruck, which had its emergency equipment activated, was headed eastbound along 47th Street when it was hit by a Chevy Impala that was headed southbound along State Street.
According to police, a 30-year-old man who was driving the Impala suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital following the crash.
Chicago fire officials said five firefighters, who were not seriously injured in the crash, were also taken to the hospital.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the crash.
