Man shot while on the Southwest Freeway, HPD says

HOUSTON (KIAH) — A man was shot in his car on the Southwest Freeway on Friday morning, Houston police said.

HPD assistant chief Patricia Cantu said that around 8:40 a.m., a shots fired call was received from the 5200 block of the Southwest Freeway, saying that a Hispanic man driving on the freeway inbound was shot in the chest.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, but his condition is unknown at this time, Cantu said.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Officers recovered a shotgun in the grassy area on the side of the freeway, but Cantu said that investigators do not believe that the incident is a road rage shooting.
