16-year-old boy, 2 others arrested after stealing vehicle from Waukegan apartment complex: police

WAUKEGAN, Ill. — A 16-year-old boy, along with two other men, were arrested after stealing a vehicle from an apartment complex in Waukegan, according to authorities.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says a sergeant was on patrol around 2:30 a.m. Friday in the area of Route 41 and Casimir Pulaski Drive in North Chicago, when they witnessed a Hyundai Sonata traveling at 93 mph in a 55 mph zone. The sergeant caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

As the sergeant approached the car he noticied a passenger side window was shattered and the steer column was damaged, according to the sheriff’s office.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen moments earlier from an apartment complex in the 500 block of Lakehurst Road in Waukegan. 

The 16-year-old driver, of Waukegan, was arrested — along with the two passengers, a 20-year-old man, of Chicago, and a 18-year-old man, of Waukegan.

Criminal charges are pending. An investigation is ongoing.
