How to remove lint from clothes without a lint roller

Not everyone has a lint roller at hand, and even if you do, it can be costly to restock them regularly just to clean off a bit of fluff from your clothing. It’s an inevitable scenario, though, especially if you’re living with pets who shed!

So, if you ever find yourself in a desperate scenario without a lint roller, here are some tricks for you to try out:

Use rubber gloves

No roller no problem. One of your best bets in this scenario is to grab a pair of rubber gloves and dampen them slightly with water. Then, run your hands over the fabric in short, quick strokes. The rubber texture will attract the lint and pet hair, making removing it easier.

Duct tape or masking tape

The age-old student trick! Wrap some duct tape or masking tape around your hand, sticky side out, and gently pat the fabric to lift off lint and pet hair. Replace the tape as needed.

Lint brush or comb

While not exactly the same as a lint roller, a lint brush or lint comb can still effectively remove lint and pet hair from clothes, and you don’t have to replace it as regularly as you would with a roller. Use the brush or comb in short strokes, brushing in one direction to lift off the debris.

If you have a strip of Velcro at home, you can use it similarly to a lint roller. Press the rough side of the Velcro against the fabric, and then pull it away to lift off lint and pet hair.

Damp cloth

Dampen a clean cloth with water and gently wipe it over the fabric to pick up lint and pet hair. Make sure the cloth isn’t too wet to avoid leaving water marks on the clothes, though!

Handheld vacuum cleaner

If you have a handheld vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment,  you’re in luck. You can use it to quickly vacuum off lint and pet hair from your clothes with no fuss. However, this scenario isn’t load shedding proof, so keep a bit of tape on hand for emergencies!
